Instructors

Donna Earl, Lead Instructor

Donna teaches the GED, pre-GED, and low level reading programs. She also supervises the Appalachian Technical College adult literacy program in Fannin County. She joined FLAG in 1992. Prior to this, she taught elementary and middle school in Florida. Donna has a B.A. in Education from Oral Roberts University and an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Brenau University.

Clarke Mercer, Evening Instructor

Clarke oversees the  pre-GED / GED classroom in the evenings.  He started working with FLAG in 1992 as a volunteer tutor.  He became the FLAG treasurer soon after that and continued in that position until 2004.  Clarke returned to teaching by becoming the evening instructor in 2005.  He has a B. S. degree in civil engineering from Georgia Tech.

Kathy Daves, Daytime Instructor

Kathy oversees the pre-GED / GED classroom during the daytime.  She started working at FLAG in 2002.  Prior to this, she was a senior counselor fro the Georgia Department of Corrections.  Kathy has a B.A. from Georgia State University and an M.S. from North Georgia College and State University.

Carol Crawford, CLC Director / ESL Instructor

Carol teaches our new ESL class.  She is also FLAG's Certified Literate Community Director.  Carol began at FLAG in January 2007.  Before coming to FLAG, she was a conference coordinator.  She has also taught creative writing and journalism.  Carol has a B.A. in Journalism/English Education from Baylor University.

John Verner, GED Instructor - Fannin County Jail

John teaches pre-GED / GED classes in the Fannin County Jail.  He has just begun at FLAG.  Prior to this, he was a teacher in Cherokee County, North Carolina, for 31 years. John is also a volunteer firefighter.  He has a B.A. in History/Physical Science and an MAE in Middle Grades Language Arts from Western Carolina University.

Doug Moore, Computer Instructor

Doug teaches FLAG's computer classes.

Jill Key, Executive Director

Jill is the Executive Director of FLAG and has been in adult education since 1984. Prior to this, she taught first grade at Morganton Elementary School. Jill has her B.A. in Elementary Education from Purdue University and an M.Ed. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.  She is currently the graduation coach for Fannin County High School.
