What will I do the first day when I come to FLAG?
When you arrive at FLAG you will sit down for a one-on-one registration
with a staff member (probably Kathy or Clarke). He or she will ask you
the usual questions: name, address, phone number, age, social
security number
and will talk to you about your educational
goals and plans for the future.
After this interview you will take an assessment to see what
skills you already have, so that we know what skills you need
to improve so you can pass the GED test or Asset test.
What happens next?
Our teachers will take the assessment that you completed and
write a "prescription" of lessons designed to teach
you the skills you need to improve. You will work on this prescription
at your own pace. Teachers are in the classroom to assist as needed.
You can come as often as you like and stay as long as you want.
Our hours are designed to let you fit your busy schedule around
your studies. We are open from 8 in the morning until 7:30 at
night Monday through Thursday and from 8 until noon on Friday.
How long will it take me to get my GED?
There is no set length of time that you have to study. Since
our program is individualized, the length of study depends on how
often you come to study, how long you stay, and how many skills
you need to improve. It's all up to you! However, you must
attend the center for 20 hours every month.
I'm 16. May I take the GED test?
Yes, 16, 17, and 18 year olds have some special requirements
that they must meet before taking the GED test.
If you are 18, you must have a withdrawal form from the last
school you attended.
If you are 16 or 17, you must have the withdrawal form, an official
picture ID (driver's license, passport, or ID from the State Patrol
Office), a social security card, and complete a form for admission into the program. This
form includes parent or guardian permission to apply.
After submitting these articles you will take the initial assessment,
study areas that need improvement, take a practice GED test and
score at least 2500 points, and then complete a form that is sent
to the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education for
approval for early testing. When you receive confirmation of approval,
then you may register for the next GED test.
I'm not interested in the GED. I just want to improve my
basic skills to take the college Asset or Compass Test. May I do that at FLAG?
Yes, we have lots of students who are brushing up on skills to
get a better score on a college placement test. You will do the
same initial assessment and receive a "prescription"
of lessons to help you study the skills you need to improve.
